“Worrying”: Segob condemns the call of a priest from Coahuila to kill women who have abortions

Mexico.- The Ministry of the Interior (Segob) made a call not to reproduce hate speech against women after the apology for femicide from a priest from Coahuila, who proposed kill women who abort.

In a statement published on Tuesday, Segob through the Undersecretariat for Democratic Development, Social Participation and Religious Affairs, the National Council to Prevent Discrimination (Conapred) and the National Commission to Prevent and Eradicate Violence (Conavim) responded to the statements by Father Lázaro Hernández.

Government described as “worrying” that after the decriminalization of abortion in Mexico By the Supreme Court ruling, a priest calls for the killing of women who have abortions, which constitutes an apology for femicide.

“It is worrying that, in the context of the recent ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), a minister of worship advocates femicide against women who decide to abort,” he said.

Segob added that stereotypes and gender discrimination they persist in Mexican society, reflecting a series of “false beliefs” about women’s gender roles, at the same time that they undermine advances in the protection of their rights, such as the decriminalization of abortion.

In that sense, the agency called for “do not reproduce hate speech that incite to limit the human rights of women “.

He also recalled that the diversity of Mexico’s society includes women, a population that has faced “structural discrimination” throughout the history of the country, which persists to this day and is reproduced in daily life. it worsens when the woman is indigenous, Afro-Mexican or with some other condition of vulnerability.

“Discrimination against women is not isolated or fortuitous: it happens daily in all areas of life and is reflected in patterns of unequal, discriminatory, generalized and massive treatment,” said the Ministry of the Interior.

“Better kill your daughters”: the words of a priest on abortion

The Segob’s call comes after the controversy at the national level that provoked the declarations of the father Lázaro Hernández during Sunday mass at the Iglesia San Juan Bautista de La Salle, in Monclova, Coahuila.

On September 12, the priest criticized before the faithful the decriminalization of abortion in Mexico by the ruling of the SCJN. Ironically, he said that “all children must be killed” as they cannot defend themselves from the termination of pregnancy.

Father Lázaro then becomes more severe and proposes to murder women who have abortions, as he assures that “they are no longer good for anything” and are “hollow.”

“Abortion is legal, and everyone is very happy, we are going to kill the children because they are not in the way, the child cannot defend himself. Why don’t we kill the mother, who won’t be of any use either? A woman who aborts is no longer good for anything. It is moral, physical and psychological hollow, “he said.

With the same aggressive tone, the Coahuila priest asks parents that “it is better to kill their daughters so that they do not get in the way,” in addition to asking them not to support them if they want to have an abortion.

“Do not support young women by killing their children so that they stop being in the way and have fun. Better kill your daughters so they don’t get in the way“declared the priest.
