Morena challenges a million-dollar fine from the INE for the scandal of Delfina Gómez, head of the SEP

Mexico.- The party of Brunette challenged before the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Power (TEPJF) the fine of 4.5 million pesos imposed by the INE for the retention of wages in the Texcoco City Council that approved Delfina Gomez Alvarez, current secretary of Public Education (SEP), when she was municipal president.

Morena’s representative before the INE, Eurípides Flores, presented the appeal to the TEPJF. In a meeting with the president of the Court, Reyes Rodríguez Mondragón, he pointed out that the fine is based on “assumptions” with the intention of damaging the party’s image.

“It is a fine based on assumptions, in a narrative created by the right to stain Morena, “he said.

The morenista accused the advisers of the INE, Lorenzo Córdova and Ciro Murayama, of promoting the fine against Morena to support opposition parties, with a view to the 2023 elections in the State of Mexico.

It was on September 3 when the general council of the INE approved a sanction of 4.5 million pesos for Morena for withholding 10% of the salary of some 550 employees of the Texcoco City Council, which was allegedly approved by Delfina Gómez when she was mayor (2012-2015).

The electoral body accused Morena of “a illegal financing scheme“Since the money withheld was paid to party suppliers without rendering accounts to the INE, according to Ciro Murayama.

The amount of resources withheld amounts to 12 million 44 thousand pesos, which were destined to operating expenses of Morena and Delfina Gómez’s campaign when she ran for a federal deputation in 2015, according to the INE investigation derived from a complaint filed by the PAN in 2017.

However, the National Electoral Institute could only verify that 2.1 million of the entire amount withheld ended up benefiting Morena.
