Michoacán.- At least five dead people, as well as civilians and soldiers injured, is the balance left by the confrontation of alleged self-defense groups against hitmen of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in the Municipality of Tepalcatepec, Michoacán.

According to local reports, in this region of Tierra Caliente during the last 48 hours the clashes at the height of the area known as La Estanzuela, in which since 2019 it has been common for these violent acts to be registered.

On this occasion, the shooting was not only of alleged self-defense groups against hitmenSince elements of the Army also participated, which left two of them with gunshot wounds, as well as a civilian.

The parish priest Javier Cortés Ochoa explained to REFORMA that, even with an official helicopter, yesterday this shooting about 5 kilometers away from the municipal seat, near a road that leads to the town of Ahuijillo, already in the territory of Jalisco.

In an interview, he explained that yesterday inhabitants of the Municipality came to ask him for help for at least four deaths, all men belonging to this group of armed civilians who intend to stop the entry of the CJNG.

“I notice four people (dead), yesterday it was a young man whose father went to help because he had died, about 16 years old, and today a family comes to ask me for blankets, to ask me for some pantries, there were five ladies, a lady She had told me that they had murdered her husband, her son and her father, that they had not recovered the bodies and that they were defending with the self-defense groups of the head, they died at the hands of the CJNG“, he explained by phone.

“They have already been here for a while that this happens, but from two days ago they began to act as well, but already today a person told me that last night they were there and they were the Army and they were stopping the advance of the CJNG“.

Cortés Ochoa added that this Thursday the reports of shots from both trenches continue, at a distance, but well identified because they have become the “bases” of each group.

“Today he continued, he did not stop all night, at times he would stop, I went to celebrate mass, I went for a walk and I will walk near the place, not so close, because do not think that I am not afraid,” he concluded.

So far, no local or federal ministerial authority, nor the Army or Navy, have reported an official balance of deaths and injuries from the shootings in the last two days.

Just last week, academics, researchers and businessmen launched a call to the State to intervene right in this border area of Michoacan with Jalisco and Colima, where the criminal siege is constant.
