Querétaro, Querétaro.- In Querétaro they opened an advice center for workers who want to file a complaint under the rapid response mechanism of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), the Labor Center of the Autonomous University of Querétaro opened its doors.

This service center will not only provide information, follow-up and advice on how to present the resources that workers have at their disposal to defend their rights, An investigation will also be carried out on the demands that are presented by unionized employees.

The director of the Labor Center, Javier Salinas, considers that the Querétaro unions must move from “charrismo” and become democratic unions, attached to the Federal Labor Law and Chapter 23 of the T-MEC, which will make labor rights are better protected.

Therefore, the center that will be in charge will seek that its actionsmainly to strengthen that working conditions are decent for employees in work centers in Querétaro.

The directors of the new Labor Center seek to be an example at the national level, so that in other parts of Mexico they are known as promoters and defenders of labor rights.

  • Unionized and non-unionized employees can file a complaint with the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) when their rights have been violated, once the United States government has submitted it, it has 30 days to issue an opinion if the case warrants its intervention, in If it is favorable, you can agree on a solution with the Government of Mexico, who must act within the following 55 days and avoid the installation of the dispute settlement panel.
  • In case the panel is installed, the resolution must arrive in four months, if the company pleads guilty its exports can be blocked and the tariff benefits of the treaty can be withdrawn.
  • The investigations into the violation of labor rights in the priority sectors of the T-MEC are carried out by an independent panel, which supports the “rapid response” of the complaint.
  • Visits to work facilities must be made up of Mexican and US observers, who will verify the claims of the complaint.
