COVID cases did not increase with back to school: Gatell

The Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, announced that after returning to face-to-face classes, no rebound in COVID-19 cases has been recorded in minors. Even, he highlighted, in the 32 states there is a “clear trend of reduction of cases ”.

During the morning press conference, led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, López-Gatell said that less than 10% of the total infections registered in the country affect children.

Two weeks after the return to face-to-face classes began, López-Gatell emphasized that this has not represented an increase in COVID cases in children. The Undersecretary of Health reported that “the 32 states have a clear trend of reducing cases ”of COVID-19; He also said that more than 35% of hospitalized people have not been vaccinated, so he reiterated the call to do so.

He added that “the trend in hospital occupancy continues to decline for six consecutive weeks and COVID hospitals are beginning to be vacated.”

Added that 68% of the adult population is already vaccinated; that is, 92 million 749 thousand 295 people. At the cutoff yesterday, September 13, 2021, 668,700 people were vaccinated.

It should be mentioned that in the Daily Technical Report, which was shared yesterday, it was reported that 4,161 cases and 221 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours.

In total, the following figures are recorded in the country:

  • 3 million 516 thousand 43 cases
  • 267,969 deaths
  • 82,203 active cases

States that accumulate the largest number of cases son:

  • Mexico City
  • Mexico state
  • New Lion
  • Guanajuato
  • Jalisco
  • Tabasco
  • Puebla
  • Veracruz
  • Sonora
  • San Luis Potosi

Given this, the Health authorities recommend continuing with hygiene measures: hand washing, application of alcohol, gel, use of a mask, voluntary quarantine or confinement, social distancing, avoiding crowds and ventilating closed spaces.
