Cerro del Chiquihuite collapses; there are deceased and missing persons

A part of Cerro del Chiquihuite broke off in the Lázaro Cárdenas Tercera Section neighborhood in the municipality of Tlalnepantla, State of Mexico, burying several houses.

The municipal president, Raciel Pérez Cruz, reported that so far there is one person dead and 10 missing after the collapse of three houses.

“At this moment it is about stabilizing the disaster area, we need to rescue the missing persons alive and we are in that effort,” he added in statements to Tv hole.

The collapse occurred around 2:30 p.m., Central Mexico time, when tons of earth began to break off, leaving three homes buried.

Images and videos already circulate through social networks of how the hill was torn down.

The municipal president of Tlalnepantla, Raciel Pérez Cruz, asked the population not to approach the place to let the elements of the emergency services work.

“I want to ask the residents of this community for calm. We need them to be kept in their homes, we have evacuated the risk area and we need the emergency forces to have the best conditions, so we ask that they do not approach the place “

Half an hour after the events, emergency forces arrived to search for the missing persons under the rubble and provide medical attention if necessary.

“We are going to work the hours that are necessary and at this time our priority is to rescue the people who were unfortunately surprised at the scene,” said Pérez Cruz in a message shared on social networks.

However, precipitation is expected in the next few hours so the search work may have to stop. The governor of the State of Mexico, Alfredo del Mazo Maza, confirmed that elements of the emergency services are already working there.

Also, paramedics from the Red Cross, the USAR Mexico City team and elements of the Secretariat of Security of the State of Mexico, who cordoned off and delimited the area.

The State Health Secretariat also supports with three ambulances and a rescue vehicle from the Emergency Service of the State of Mexico (SUEM).

In addition, the Water Commission of the State of Mexico (CAEM) sent a team of specialists to collaborate on the situation. They all work to find people who may have been injured.
